Yeah, you tell ’em, Garland! We don’t want any of their kind around here! The world would be a much better place without all these dang Muslims! Yessir, we need to take a stand against these American, non-extremist, Muslims… who are gathering for a peace conference… Wait a second, am I being the @$$, here?!
A Muslim group, “Stand With the Prophet Muhammed Against Terror and Hate,” recently held a conference in Garland, TX. They were meeting over current issues facing Islam, and the followers of the religion. Topics like the Paris attacks, Islamic extremism, Islamophobia, and how to break Muslim stereotypes were discussed. A fundraiser was held as well in Garland’s Culwell Center. All in all, it was a quiet, respectful meeting of people discussing their religion. All things considered, it was little different from a Christian church service (especially the “fundraising” part!)
Of course, the Muslims who planned and attended this meeting forgot one thing: it was in Garland, TX. Of course, that could just be a simple mistake. Garland is one of several cities that just get lumped under the name of the super-city “Dallas.” It’s quite possible they had no idea they were walking into Ultra-conservative Central.
This peaceful meeting to discuss peace was protested. As you can see by the video above, bikers rode back and forth loudly to disrupt the conference, people shouted “God Bless America” to passersby and then kindly informed them about the dangers of Islam. Personally, I like to think that they were just at the wrong protest spot and it was all just a misunderstanding. “Oh, this is the peaceful Muslim meeting? I’m so sorry, we’ve got the wrong place! Come on, Billy-Bob, get your ‘Go back to the desert’ sign. The violent Muslim meeting is a few blocks away!”
