KKK salutes Alabama chief justice

A Mississippi chapter of the Klan has sworn support to Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore for his stance on gay marriage.

“The Mississippi Klan salutes Alabama’s chief justice Roy Moore, for refusing to bow to the yoke of Federal tyranny,” Brent Waller, the United Dixie White Knights’ imperial wizard, wrote on Stormfront, the largest online white supremacist forum. “The Feds have no authority over individual States marriage laws.”

What has Mr. Roy Moore done to earn the respect of the blanket brigade?  He’s advised other state judges to ignore federal law and refuse to hand out marriage licenses to homosexual couples.  He claims that they are not required to, even though a recent federal law struck down the ban on same-sex marriage in the state.  Mr. Moore believes that Alabama is not bound by federal law.

“Interference with the right of state courts to make independent judgments based on their own view of the U.S. Constitution is a violation of state sovereignty,” Moore wrote in the four-page letter to probate judges.

I thought we already settled this question over state sovereignty?  Didn’t we have a whole war over that subject?  In fact, I’m almost certain Alabama judges were using this exact same reasoning back in the 1800s, when slavery was the question and not gay marriage!  Some things never change, I guess?

Now, I won’t get into the debate over same-sex marriage being right or wrong.  I’m just saying, if the Klu Klux Klan is on your side, you really have to rethink your stance on some things, don’t you?
