Huckabee’s plan for prison reform: slavery

Ah, Huck.  Don’t his constant warnings of God’s impending destruction of America make you feel like everything’s going to be okay?

Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee recently went on a right-wing radio show based in Des Moines, Iowa.  During the show the host, Jan Mickelson went on a rant about how the criminal justice system has been taken over by progressives, and the need to go back to the kind of justice they had in the book of Exodus.  Slavery, specifically.

“It says, if a person steals, they have to pay it back twofold, fourfold. If they don’t have anything, we’re supposed to take them down and sell them,” he said

Mike Huckabee, being a paragon of moderate Christianity, wholeheartedly agreed. “Well, it really would be,” Huckabee said when asked if that system would be better than the current American criminal justice system. “Sometimes the best way to deal with a nonviolent criminal behavior is what you just suggested.”

According to the International Business Times, this radio host, Mickelson, really has a thing for slavery.  Back in August, he suggested that America could solve it’s immigration issue by enslaving any illegal immigrants they caught.  I mean, what would change, exactly?  Many of them are already doing yard work and manual labor.

Of course, I’m still surprised that Mike Huckabee would even give lip service to the whole slavery idea.  The only thing he thumps more than the Bible is the Constitution.  And doesn’t the 13th amendment kind of say something about slavery being a not-so-good thing?  Maybe Mike just gets the Ten Commandments and the constitutional amendments confused.
