Newest fast-growing business: canned air

What was once the joke of science fiction and dystopian novels (and that Lorax movie) is now a lucrative reality!  People always talk about traveling to the mountains or the country.  They want to see the sights, enjoy nature, and above all, take in that “fresh air.” Well, now you don’t have to leave the comfort of your house to get said air!  Thanks to this growing market, fresh air can come to you!  Yes, that’s right, you can now buy jars of fresh air!

It may seem dumb, but in heavily polluted cities like Beijing and Shanghai, people are paying upwards of $160 for a single jar!

Leo de Watts, a British air farmer, has sold over 180 jars of air since he began his business only a few weeks ago.

ABC reports:  Clients often request a very particular set of circumstances for their air, Mr De Watts said, meaning “sometimes we’ll be at the top of mountain, other times at the bottom of a valley”.

“Some people want air collected when it’s very windy, some people want still night air.”

The product is “cultivated” by air farmers who put bottles in special nets and run through pastures to “harvest” the product.

A Canadian “air company” has been selling fresh air in China for 100 Yuan (about $15) a bottle, which is 33 times more expensive than a bottle of water!  They suggest using their product after partying too hard the previous night, or when you’re trying to focus on studying, or if you’re just winded from exercise.  Or, you know, if you’re choking to death on the pollution around you.

As the old saying goes: if it’s stupid, but it works, it ain’t stupid.  The profits that are rolling in suggests that the oxygen business is definitely working.
