Man Wins Election Despite Killing Himself

In a time where there’s no such thing as “good people in politics,” sometimes you have to take the bad with the good. Sure, he’s dead, but at least he’s better than Trump or Clinton!

A GOP politician recently clinched a surprising victory in the state of New York. Assemblyman Bill Nojay was a loud & proud supporter of both Donald Trump and gun rights. This victory comes as a surprise for a number of reasons. He was under investigation from the FBI and was mired in a fraud trial in Cambodia (sounds like there’s a story there!) Another reason his win is shocking is because he’s dead. He shot himself while sitting at his family’s cemetery plot in Rochester, NY.

WIVB reports: Now the defeat Tuesday of challenger Richard Milne coupled with a quirk in state election law means that local GOP leaders, who encouraged voters to choose Nojay despite his death, get to pick someone to take on Democrat Barbara Baer in November. Nojay’s Republican-leaning district in the Legislature’s lower chamber covers parts of suburban Rochester and the Finger Lakes region.

“I really don’t know what to say. It’s such an unusual situation,” Milne told The Associated Press as unofficial results showed him trailing by nearly 1,000 of the 4,500 votes cast.

“I really believe we would have fared better with Mr. Nojay still alive,” he said.

Death usually makes people forget the negative aspects of a person. How many funerals have you been to where someone is made out to be a saint, where you know that just wasn’t true? Sometimes dying is the best thing one can do to save their reputation.

Joking aside, however, suicide is always sad. I don’t believe the article mentioned if Mr. Nojay left any loved ones behind, but thoughts and prayers go out to any that are there.
