Russia Blocks Porn Site for “Damaging Human Psyche”

The only one allowed to damage the Russian psyche is the Russian government!

Russia sure has been in the news a lot lately, hasn’t it? On the bright side, it’t finally for something other than Ukraine or the election! This time it’s about protecting its people from a grave threat. No, not terrorism or “Western encroachment.” It’s porn!

The Russian government has banned pornography website Brazzers based on the fact that porn has a “deeply negative affect on the human psyche.” Sure, while that’s potentially true, there’s also a benefit! I mean, you’re in Russia! It gets pretty cold. You need to keep your blood flowing somehow!

The Moscow Times reports: Russian media watchdog Roskomnadzor blacklisted the site Tuesday, blocking access from Russia-based servers.

The move follows a decision by Bolsheglushitsky District Court in Russia’s Samara region in October 2016.

The court ruled that Brazzers’ pornographic content had a “purely negative impact on the human psyche,” and “violated citizens’ rights,” Russia’s TJ Journal reported. The case was brought to the court by local prosecutors working “in the interests of the Russian Federation.”

Brazzers is yet to comment on the decision.

Back in September of 2016, the Russian government also blocked adult website Pornhub. They responded by offering Russian viewers two weeks of access to their premium services and offered Roskomnadzor officials upgraded membership in return for lifting the ban. A tempting offer, but one that got rejected.

This move to block Brazzers is also in response to an interesting trend. While Russians constitute only 4% of all traffic to the website, “the number of Russian language search terms driving visitors to the company’s homepage have more than doubled over the past 12 months.”

Not to defend porn, but let me reiterate that this is in Russia! What else is there to do?! Maybe Putin is just jealous that his citizens are looking for more than just shirtless pictures of him online.
